Egain integrates the new software service Edge AI into KKB Fastigheter through existing systems in order to optimize energy use with AI.
The municipal housing company in Kävlinge, KKB Fastigheter, with about 2,200 rental apartments has undergone major digitization work where it has joined the Public Utility Digitization Initiative where members of Sweden’s Public Utility collaborate on various digitization projects to drive digital development forward in the industry.
At KKB, the foundation platform for digitization has been the introduction of its own property network, where approximately SEK 30 million has been invested in order to connect apartments and facilitate the introduction of various digital services, tools and systems. In addition to their own network, they are currently installing digital locks, connected laundry rooms, entrance boards and mailboxes to digitize both their properties, their organization and for their tenants.
– “The investment in our own network has become a profitable business financially, but it has also made it easier for us to introduce, for example, apartment measurements that are connected to the control system and that facilitate our work with over temperatures and needed actions in problem apartments. We have also been able to introduce a new Scada system where Web Port has been installed as an overall platform for our property automation and where we now add Edge AI as an important piece of the puzzle for energy optimization and analysis of properties “, says Mattias Averup, Technical Manager at KKB Fastigheter AB who has been driving in matters concerning technology, digitization and property development at KKB.
In the project around a new Scada system, the control contractor VESAM has launched Web Port with the goal of being able to handle a large amount of properties and be able to connect different types of energy meters and sensors such as the LoRa sensors from Elvaco that are connected to Netmore’s LoRa-WAN portal. As the next step, part of the portfolio will now be connected to Egain’s new cloud service Edge AI in order to further optimize energy use, indoor climate and increase internal efficiency and control with the help of artificial intelligence.
The project means that Edge AI is delivered as a pure software integration with KKB’s existing SCADA system Web Port and further into existing equipment in the properties where energy use and the indoor climate are controlled and optimized with the help of AI from Egain. Existing equipment in the form of LoRa sensors for indoor measurement and various meters connected to the buildings are connected to Edge AI where the data from this is visualized and used in the ongoing optimization. This means that KKB benefits further from investments already made and increases the exchange rate and extends the life of investments already made in installed hardware.
– “KKB is one of many very conscious property owners out there who want to be involved and drive the development around digitization forward and also in a cost-conscious and smart way. This means that you look at the whole of your business, how different systems can fit in and benefit from each other in the best way. This is beneficial through integrations, collaborations and the use of flexible systems and platforms without lock-in effects, and Mattias and the rest of the gang at KKB have done a very good job in finding solutions on how different parts of systems from different suppliers can be used in more ways in the business. For our part, we are pleased with the continued great demand for Edge AI and to be able to contribute to our customers’ digitization work with our expertise in energy and digitization, ”says Martin Eksberg, Head of Business Sweden at Egain Group.
