Bostadsbolaget in Gothenburg applies AI technology to its management strategy to achieve its environmental and energy targets
The project will be an important piece of the puzzle in the housing company’s strategic work towards achieving its overall environmental and energy targets by 2030. The AB Framtiden-owned company Bostadsbolaget i Göteborg AB and Egain, part of the proptech group Kiona and a leading provider of value-added systems for operational and energy optimization, have signed an agreement to connect Egain’s optimization service Edge AI to a larger part of the housing stock in the Rannebergen area in Gothenburg.
Bostadsbolaget i Göteborg is one of the municipal housing companies in Gothenburg that is part of the Förvaltnings AB Framtidens group, which includes a total of approximately 74,000 rental apartments. The housing company owns about 25 000 apartments of which it has set ambitious energy targets where it is committed to reducing its energy consumption by 30% by 2030 by joining the Swedish All Public Sector Climate Initiative. Now the company is taking the next step towards achieving the energy targets by connecting Edge AI, which uses existing systems and installations to optimize energy use with AI. The project is now being launched in a larger area in Rannebergen in northeast Gothenburg as a first step where the company sees good opportunities to develop the properties. Edge AI is connected entirely software-wise through the cloud to the housing company’s existing control systems via API to the SCADA platform Web Port.
Camilla Hallquist, Head of Property Development at Bostadsbolaget explains:
“We have taken on the important task of contributing to the transition to a more sustainable and energy-efficient property portfolio through our participation in the Swedish Public Sector Climate Initiative. We have come a long way, but we still have about 20% to go and we need to increase the pace to reach the 2030 targets and we hope that Egain’s Edge AI integration solution will help us further in our energy and environmental work. Edge AI is a smart and cost-effective solution that is easy to connect to through the cloud and also allows us to leverage investments already made in our buildings instead of having to buy new ”
“In our roadmap, we had a clear vision that we wanted to add some form of smart system or function to our steering strategy connected to our properties. After the upgrade to Web Port in the first half of 2021, it was a good opportunity to also connect Edge AI as it is easy to integrate purely software-wise through APIs and also leverages our already made investments in e.g. indoor sensors that are imported into Egain’s system and can then contribute to the optimization via AI. This allows us to get a return on investments already made and I think it is a very smart way to add AI to the steering and it will be exciting to see the results of it a little later when we can compare Egain’s AI against our normal control where the heating curve is only adjusted to the current indoor temperature, says Daniel Hedman, Energy Engineer at Bostadsbolaget.
“From our side, we are happy to note a continued strong interest in integrating Egain and the Edge AI service into existing systems out in the market, and great to start up this project with Bostadsbolaget with their talented and curious group of engineers. We look forward to a long-term collaboration together, says Martin Eksberg, Head of Business Sweden at Egain
